Modelos masculinos de más de 40. Porque la belleza no entiende de edades

A pesar de que en el mundo del moda la obsesión por la juventud ha sido una constante a lo largo de los años, cada vez más, las firmas y las cabeceras más importantes, se están dando cuenta que la belleza no tiene por qué directamente estar reñida con la edad. Asimismo, hay que reconocer que en el caso de los hombres, la verdad es que se es mucho menos exigente que en el de las mujeres y, por tanto, el tema de la edad se suele mirar menos. Os pongo un ejemplo para que lo entendáis. En el certamen Elite Model look – uno de los concursos en busca de nuevos modelos más importantes a nivel internacional – la horquilla de edad para poder participar en el mismo varia en cuestión de sexos. Me explico, las chicas pueden participar de los 14 a los 22 años, mientra que en el caso de los chicos el target va los 16 a los 28 años. Curioso cuando menos. Son muchos los casos de niñas con apenas 16 años paseando palmito en las pasarelas de moda más importantes. Mientras que en el caso de los modelos masculinos, aunque los llamados 'new faces' sigan teniendo mucho tirón, parece que los hombres, que no chavales, empiezan a tener la importancia que se merecen. Por eso hoy, os quiero hablar de ellos, modelos que ya han cumplido los cuarenta y que siguen en activo, muchos eso sí, compaginando sus carreras con otras profesiones. Para algunas agencias, ellos los llamados 'modelos clásicos' o lifestyle models, son los nuevos tops. Y es que ya sabéis lo que dicen, los treinta son los nuevos veinte, y los cuarenta los nuevos treinta. Sea como sea, estos hombres que ya han pasado la cuarentena siguen estando de muy buen ver.

In the modelling business obsession with youth has been a constant over the years, but things are changing. Nowadays firms, designers and major fashion magazines, are realizing that beauty does not have to be directly related with age. It's also necessary to recognize that in men's cases, the truth is that it's much less demanding that women and, therefore, the issue of age is often less important. Let me give you an example that you may understand it. In the contest Elite Model look - one of the competitions for new models more important internationally - the age to participate in it is a different a matter of gender. I mean, the girls can participate from 14 to 22 years old, while in the case of the boys, the target is from 16 to 28 years. Curious at least. There are many cases of 16 years old girls who are already walking in the most important fashion weeks. While in the case of male models, although the 'new faces' still are in a huge demand, seems that men, not boys, starting to have the importance that they deserve. So, today I want to talk about them, male models over the forty that are still in active, many of them, combining their careers with other professions. For some agencies these called 'classic models' or lifestyle models, are the new tops. In sort, as it's said, 30s are the new 20s, and 40s the new 30s. Either way, these men who are already over forty are still very good looking. If you don't believe me, just take a look.

Jorge Gelati quien trabajó como militar antes de dedicarse a la moda, es uno de los supermodelos masculinos más reconocidos de los últimos tiempos. A sus 47 años el top model  representado por Elite Models sigue en activo y recientemente ha sido protagonizado campañas para Gap o Zenith. Como anécdota,  cuenta que al principio de su carrera le dijeron que si no se teñía el pelo no triunfaría, y es que ya con 19 años tenía la cabellera totalmente canosa. Este atractivo brasileño está felizmente casado y es padre de una niña y un niño.

Paul Sculfor antes de dedicarse a la moda trabajó como albañil y boxeador, además estudió teatro. Reside en Nueva York y está representado por la agencia Ford Models. Se dio a conocer por una campaña a nivel internacional con Levis y ha trabajado con diseñadores como Jean Paul Gaultier o firmas como Moschino. El modelo inglés sigue protagonizando editoriales de moda y entre sus últimos trabajos destaca la campaña para el perfume Aramis que protagonizó el año pasado.

El americano, uno de los modelos masculinos más legenderarios, sigue trabajando muy activamente en la industria, de hecho vive a caballo entre entre Europa y América y son continuos sus trabajos para conocidas firmas y cabeceras de moda y lifestyle.

Según publico el Sunday Times, John Pearson fue el primer supermodelo masculino. Después de más 25 años de carrera y habiendo sido un habitual de la revista GQ, el top sigue en activo y está representado por la agencia Storm. El año pasado volvió a la pasarela en exclusiva para Prada en su desfile de primavera-verano 2013. John Pearson está casado y vive en Los Ángeles.

According to The Sunday Times, John Pearson was the first male supermodel. After more than 25 years of career and having been a regular of GQ magazine, the top still active and is represented by the Agency Storm. Last year he returned to the runway exclusively for Prada in its spring-summer 2013 fashion show. John Pearson is married and lives in Los Angeles.

Conocido como 'el Increíble Hulse', Bruce Hulse es una de las leyendas vivas de la industria y ha sido muso, entre otros del gran Bruce Weber. Bruce fue descubierto en la playa practicando surf y antes de ser modelo trabaja como socorrista. Una de sus últimas portadas fue esta que ves para la edición internacional de Voge Hommes, en la que fue retratado una vez más, junto con otros modelos icónicos. Aunque oficialmente está retirado del modelaje y se dedica más a tomar fotos, el año pasado protagonizó una campaña para la firma francesa The Kopples, y de vez en cuando sigue aceptando ofertas publicitarias.

Known as 'the Incredible Hulse', Bruce Hulse, a legend of the industry, has been muse, among others, of the great Bruce Weber. Bruce was discovered at the beach where he was surfing and before becoming a model worked as a lifeguard. One of their latest covers was this on the international edition of Voge Hommes, which was featured with other iconic models. Although he is officially retired of modelling and is dedicated more to take photos, last year starred in a campaign for the French firm The Kopples, and occasionally he still is accepting advertising offers.

Podríamos decir que, sin lugar a dudas, Cameron es la cara más reconocida dentro los modelos masculinos de los 90s. Él vivió como pocos la época en las que los supermodelos eran casi más importantes que las propias propuestas presentadas. Durante más de dos décadas el top model de madre inglesa y padre persa, fue el favorito de diseñadores como Jean Pual Gaultier, Versace o Karl Lagerfeld. En la actualidad  y aunque de vez en cuando se deje ver en alguna que otra sesión de fotos, vive totalmente dedicado al yoga, de hecho es uno de los yogis profesionales más importantes del mundo.

Currently and occasionally he does some modelling jobs but mainly he lives totally dedicated to yoga, in fact, is one of the most important professional yogis from all over the world.
