No more Saint Laurent by Slimane

Hedi Slimane

After a few months of rumors, finally has been confirmed the headline officially. The speculation has been around of the fashion circles now is a fact published in all the media. Creative director Hedi Slimane leaves definitely the maison Saint Laurent, well, to be more exact, his contract has not been renewed. Four years of successes but also of criticism, especially in the first collection, what it is clear is that the adventure of the Belgian in the well-known French label has not left anyone indifferent.

Slimane, the king of Rebranding

Since the beginning, Slimane revolutionized the House founded by the master Yves Saint Laurent and did it at all levels. Much-talked-about was the renaming of the label, just losing 'Yves' - name of its founder - and adding 'París'. At the time, was commented that Slimane wanted the signature sound gracefully along with his own name "Saint Laurent Paris by Slimane". Secondly, surprisingly, the creator decided not to move to Paris, where is the brand headquarters, not to mention that Paris is the city par excellence of couture, on the other hand, he decided to reside in Los Angeles where later, would eventually showcase his proposals in a very popular fashion show. In addition, creative director changed all the aesthetics of the brand, losing its characteristic Parisian and majestic vibe to a  more minimalist style, graphically speaking. He changed the packaging, the logo, the website, the advertising campaigns, he even changed the bags. As for fashions, was pointed out the fact that Slimane made very few references to theYves Saint Laurent legally, instead, what he did was basically repeat the same designs that did in his Dior Homme era: the skinny fit silhouette and the grunge and rock & roll/bohemian vibes.  The truth is that the maison supported this decisions and in fact they ensure that "it has led to a complete repositioning of the brand". Either way, the genuine Slimane stamp has become recognizable from the outset leaving us so characteristic looks like these ones that I propose here as my favorite ones.

Slimane's future

As happend when he left Dior Homme in 2007, the future of Hedi Slimane will remain linked to other artistic disciplines such as photography, although it is not clear whether his name will be associated in the near future with a new large firm or if, on the contrary, he could finally launch his own brand with homonymous name. Personally, I think that it would be ideal in this case. Despite of all, Slimane has become his personal taste in a clearly identifiable style, so the creation of his own fashion and lifestyle brand would be the next big thing to do. We don't know the future, but we do is that there is much more Slimane to see, that's for sure
